Portfolio Painting – David

David from Michelangelo by emanuel schweizer

Details

Again, I was looking for something special and I am in an experimental mood. I wanted to experiment with canvas, structuring paste, paintbrush and acryl colors. This for the material – still missing the object. Some thinking, then the flash and the idea was born: “David” from Michelangelo. Probably the most known sculpture in the history of art. The original sculpture of “David” can be admired in Florence, Italy. The statue is 5 meters high and weighs around 6 tons. It’s a just a stunning piece of art.

With this painting I felt more daring and crazy. I dared to experiment with structuring matt gel to give the artwork a special look and effect. As you might have noticed, I also experimented to take special shots with my camera and make a short video. Et voilà!

  • Project: David, most famous and known artwork in the art history from Michelangelo, built 1501 – 1504
  • Category: Painting
  • Tools: Gouache Lascaux on paper with structuring matt gel from Amsterdam
  • Created: Leisure time
  • Workout summary: It took me 13 hours and 46 minutes
  • Price: On request

You might be interested how this was created – so from time to time, I will show you up the making of my paintings step by step and how it becomes form & colors.

Additional Info – Video

As mentioned above this was a special work and I was inspired not only to take interesting shots catched with my camera but also to release a little trailer. It’s available on my YouTube channel as well.
